UNDERSTANDING THE KINGDOM OF GOD AND YOUR POSITION AND PURPOSE IN IT - By- Apostle Chiugo Anthony JOSEPHAT-NWOKOLO,
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His
righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” - Matt 6:33 NKJV. Jesus Christ told us in the foregoing
scripture, that we should prefer first God’s Kingdom and righteousness above
every other things and then every other things we need shall be added unto us. In
other words, the first and most important thing we should seek after is the
kingdom of God; to know and understand it and to become a citizen of that
Kingdom. Heaven is a kingdom; the throne of the Almighty God, whereas the earth
have He given unto the children of men to be fruitful, multiply, replenish,
subdue and dominate it His Gifts, Words, Wisdom, Power, Will, Ways, Glory,
Culture and Praise, and in so doing prepare and qualify to live eternally in
His Kingdom. And the Holy Bible is the constitution (the book of the law) for
the earth and its inhabitants to live according to its dictates.
God’s word confirms this to us in the book of
Joshua 1:8 “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall
meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that
is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will
have good success”.
Mark the following key words in the foregoing
Scriptural passage; meditating, observing, abiding and speaking God’s word has
been proven as the bedrock for true success and fulfillment here and hereafter in
accordance to the foregoing biblical injunction.
The Kingdom
Master Plan and Your Place
Jesus
taught us a prayer called Our Lord’s Prayer, "This, then, is how you should
pray: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your
will be done on earth as it is in heaven - Matthew 6: 9-10
God’s plans and intention is to rule and
influence the earth with his glory, will,ways, wisdom, laws and culture. That
is the reason why Christ taught us in our Lord’s Prayer to pray for the kingdom
of God to come and for His will to be done on earth.
I saw the Holy City, the New Jerusalem,
coming down out of Heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for
her husband. And I heard a loud voice
from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and He will
live with them. They will be His people, and God himself will be with them and
be their God. He will wipe every tear
from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for
the old order of things has passed away." - Rev 21:2-4
God’s original master plan for the earth is
to extend His kingdom to the earth, to influence the earth and its inhabitants
with His words, will, laws, glory and culture. And His plan and intention is to
perform and execute these through His children on earth. In other words, God created you
to function as His ambassador on earth and thereby influence the earth with his
words, laws, ways, will, wisdom, power, gifts, glory and culture. The Holy Scripture is about God’s kingdom
establishing its influence and constitution in another place. God's plan is
to influence and control the territory of earth with the nation of Heaven and
to fill the earth with his Words, Will, Ways, Wisdom, Wonders, Power, Culture
and Glory. Heaven is a Kingdom and is more real and permanent than the earth.
All kingdoms desire to extend their influence to another territory. Nigeria
used to be a colony of Great Britain. Mexico used to be a colony of Spain. Cameroon
used to be a colony of France and other French speaking countries in Africa.
In
other words, when you influence a place, it becomes like the nation that influenced
it. God created you and I as citizens of the heavenly kingdom to dominate the
earth with his words, ways, Wisdom, laws, will and culture and to reign and
rule in it as kings and priest of God and in so doing subdue it with His glory,
power and wisdom.
That
is why God’s word tell us in the first chapter of the book of Genesis 1:26 - 28;
“Then
God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them
have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the
cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the
earth." So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He
created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God
said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it;
have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over
every living thing that moves on the earth."
In
view of the foregoing scripture we can understand that God created humankind to
dominate, replenish and subdue the earth with His glory and power. In other
words, as long as you are a child of God you are born to reign on the face of
the earth as God’s image and representative; to manifest His glory, wisdom and
power and thereby fulfill His purpose for your life with the gifts He has
endowed you with and in so doing ordain your destiny.
Kingdom Citizenship
Believing
and confessing that Jesus Christ sacrificed His precious life for your sins on
the cross of Calvary 2,000+ years ago, is what makes you a citizen of that Heavenly
kingdom. Many Christians do not have knowledge about their kingdom and that is
why many are not manifesting the glory of God by fulfilling their purpose. They
proclaim Jesus as their Lord and Saviour but do not know about the kingdom that
came with Him and their salvation. Jesus brought the Kingdom of God to us and
preached so much, specifically, on the THE KINGDOM. In the book of Luke 9:11;
It was written, “And the people when they knew it, followed him: and He received them,
and spake unto them of the Kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of
healing. In the book of Luke 17:21 Jesus was asked when the Kingdom
will come and He answered: Neither shall they say, lo here! Or lo there! For,
behold, the Kingdom of God is within you.
“That
if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine
heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and
with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith,
Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference
between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that
call upon him.
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall
be saved”
- Romans 10:9-13
In
other words, your passport to kingdom citizenship is in believing with your
heart that Jesus Christ has paid the price for your sin with His precious blood,
and confessing Christ as your Lord and savior, in accordance to book of Romans
10:9-10. Therefore, it would interest you to know that if you are Obedient,
Holy and Faithful in Christ, you are a law abiding citizen of that kingdom,
that is why it is written, “And God raised us up with Christ and seated
us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus” – Ephesians 2: 6 NIV.
In other words, you are living in the world but you are not of this world. You
are designed and purposed to be living kingdom life on earth.
Understanding the
Kingdom Concept
Jesus taught us a lot
of things in parables and one of the most significant the Parable of the Talents – Matthew 25: 14 - 46, it would
help you to better understand the Kingdom of God. You can read the whole
parables from the aforementioned bible references. Let us hear about the Kingdom from the Lord
of Lords himself and then consider and meditate on it.
